Ten out of ten Rockley sires sold for an average of $13,350 at RBWS 2016, exceeding the overall sale average, which was itself a record. One of our leading donors, Rockley Trinadine (IVF) (P), deserves a particular mention as her first three sons averaged $18,333. We were delighted to be selling again at this prestigious event and would like to thank all our buyers, bidders, agents and supporters. We believe that it is our commitment to providing elite red Brahmans for our customers that led to our results, and that they set up an outstanding platform for us to build on into the future.
Elite breeding attributes
We were delighted to receive feedback about our sale bulls that directly reflects the goals of our breeding program. Existing clients, new clients and other visitors commented on how well balanced, structurally sound, quiet and well prepared our young bulls were. These are among our 7 elite breeding attributes.
Well balanced … We are continually fine-tuning the balance among the genetic traits we want to see in our cattle and are very careful to avoid the problems associated with selecting for a single trait. Our approach is unrushed and measured and we put considerable thought, time and research into matching a joining. Read more.
Structurally sound … When purchasing a bull, your aim should be to get the maximum amount of cows in calf in a minimum amount of time. To do this the bull needs to be structurally sound. Our high standards mean you can be confident you’re purchasing Red Brahmans with strong, predictable genetics that lead to longevity and efficiency in the paddock. Read more.
Quiet temperament … Rockley cattle are genetically selected for their calm and easy nature and this is reinforced through our weaner grading system which allows us to identify the source of a temperament issue and cull accordingly. The outcome is that when you buy Rockley cattle, behaviour modification will be unnecessary, and you can expect smooth integration of your new bulls and females into your existing herds. Read more.
Well prepared … Our focus on nutrition is integral to our bull development program and enables us to bring animals to sale that are well prepared and never overdone. With nutrition as a key priority, every Rockley bull made available for sale has been given the opportunity to grow naturally in accordance with its genetic potential to achieve elite Red Brahman status. As a result, Rockley bulls have exceptional do-ability. Read more.
The overall sale result was a tremendous vote of confidence in the red Brahman breed and Rockley’s elite red Brahmans in particular. Witnesses looked on as the sale achieved a record price, record average and record gross. Red bulls sold to average $12,372, topped at $150,000 with a clearance rate of 100%. Grey bulls averaged $11,374, topped at $80,000 with a clearance rate of 97%. To all those involved, congratulations on a marvelous result.
We welcomed back existing customers at Rocky as 9 of our 10 bulls sold to repeat buyers, and were very happy to meet new clients too. It is tremendous to see both stud and commercial clients investing in our bulls.
We have detailed buyers and sale prices on our Sales/Events page. We particularly thank the Nobbs Family for the purchase of our top-priced bull, Rockley Tyrion (IVF) (P), and also his full brother, Rockley Renly (IVF).
We were very encouraged by our return and our long-term plan is to continue to produce a high percentage of polled bulls, that are quiet, structurally correct, moderate, well fleshed and that are backed by EBVs. Our immediate focus now shifts to three bulls destined for the Big Country Sale in 2017 – and we’ll be posting information about them shortly.
