With less than a month to go before the 2016 Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale, we’d like to share information about the genetic background of the animals we will be presenting there. Here we profile three sires and highlight the traits we consistently see in their progeny. We believe this breeding background is essential to help you make wise purchasing decisions. As always, our breeding and matching decisions have been carefully thought out and relate closely to the 7 elite breeding attributes Rockley animals are known for.
YOMAN 77/0 (H)
Sire of Lots 744 & 753 at RBWS 2016.
A $32,000 purchase from the 2012 Rockhampton Brahman Week. Elevated, trim, muscular, beautifully pigmented, loaded with character, sirey and with superb length, he’s a rich blend of both worlds – red and grey, old and new, including a direct line to the original importations.
Many of the most successful herds of the past and present are included in his genetics – Cumberland Downs, Lancefield, Burnside, Lyndhurst, Tartrus, JDH, HK, HCC and Cherokee.
The Yoman 77/0 progeny are consistently breeding true to his type. They are quiet in nature, have terrific strong heads and exhibit ample breed character. His females are calving at the moment and we are extremely impressed with their udders (sound udders is one of our elite breeding attributes).
NCC DIPLOMAT 1689 (AI) (ET) (D)
Sire of Lots 745, 748 & 749 at RBWS 2016.
A $40,000 purchase from the 2011 NCC Sale. The sheer strength, carcass attributes and carriage put Diplomat in a class of his own. A powerful straight red with an international pedigree, he represents one of the first reds by international and US national champion, JDH Mr Elmo Manso.
Diplomat has a strong body and is a real sire type out of the leading full blood South African donor NCC Dienka 238 (AI)(ET)(H). Dienka has placed an impressive genetic stamp on the breed with sons in leading herds across Australia.
Our first Rockley Diplomat son sold for $24,000 and the first progeny out of a Diplomat daughter sold for $12,000 . We have many amazing daughters coming in to our production system, with tremendous progeny resulting from these females. We are rapt with the udders on the Diplomat daughters, along with their capacity to maintain the do-ability we require from a lactating female.
JDH SIR STRATTON MANSO 823/4 (IMP) (H)
Sire of Lots 746, 747, 750, 751 & 752 at RBWS 2016.
JDH Sir Stratton Manso is an outstanding son of the legendary JDH Mr Elmo Manso and he excels in many areas such as length, width, natural muscle and conformation. Stratton also exhibits an extreme amount of bone and stature and is already passing all these traits on to his calves in both red and grey breeding programs. Stratton’s offspring are moderate, easy fleshing and correct, all possessing excellent temperaments.
We are very pleased that Stratton has the ability to breed light pigmented progeny when matched with red females as he clearly has the capability to produce animals that appeal to a wide range of breeders. We have another batch of Stratton calves on the ground at the moment, testament to our faith in this impressive sire.
We are delighted to be among the first to offer male Stratton progeny in the sale ring. Our first Stratton daughter, Rockley Miss Pearl, sold for $12,000 as the top sale at the 2016 World Brahman Congress. To date, nine daughters of this great sire have averaged $12,555.
