At Rockley Brahmans our focus is always to further benefit our customers by enhancing the performance of the Rockley animals they purchase. So we are proud to let you know about a new dimension to our bull-breeding operation and we look forward to offering our first Simbrah herd bulls for sale as yearlings in 2018.
The Simbrah is a moderate sized cattle breed which takes its features from both the Brahman and the Simmental. Established through structured crossbreeding of Simmental and Brahman, the Simbrah (Sim + brah) combines the best of both parent breeds:
- The Simmental is renowned for its superior weight gain, fertility, carcass yield and temperament.
- The Brahman is a proven performer in northern environments for its efficiency, fertility, heat tolerance and parasite resistance.
The Simbrah breed has been developed to enhance performance of northern Australian beef herds. Simbrahs have the ability to reach puberty early and have high fertility, further enhancing herd profitability.
Our focus is to breed straight red colours that are polled and moderate framed. We plan to offer these bulls as yearlings to give our clients the opportunity for the bulls to acclimatise and get to work at an early age. These bulls may be of particular interest to Droughtmaster and Charbray breeders.
We aim to breed two Simbrah types:
Simbrah (50% Simmental : 50% Brahman) from red polled Simmental bull X red Brahman female.
In September 2016 we purchased a Red Simmental bull calf by the name of GK 42 Lightning L5 (P) (ET) (pictured) to utilise in our Simbrah breeding program.
A son of HRC Firepower 42N, at only 11 months of age GK Lightning weighed 650kg, had 80% semen motility, a scrotal circumference of 43cm and tested PP(98%).
We look forward to the first batch of Simbrah calves, which are due this year.
Low content Simbrah (75% Brahman : 25% Simmental) from light pigmented Brahman bull X Simbrah female.
We have selected our best Simbrah females to be joined with a homebred light pigmented Brahman bull. We eagerly await the first low content progeny, which are also due this year.
